Family at the residence

ANNIE MAE CAIRNES LYDA, 83, of Hendersonville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 16, 2010, at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, and was a daughter of the late Fleet and Millie Ann Hill Cairnes. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Warren, Jere, and Bob.

Annie loved the Lord and showed that love often to others through making pound cakes, and homemade goods, like baby clothes and dolls. Many customers returned year after year to pick apples and drink cider with Annie. She served her church faithfully for 40 years, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, planting seeds of faith in many children. She was a graduate of Mills River High School, and a faithful member of Fruitland Baptist Church. She was a farmer and a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Talmadge Lyda; a daughter, Nancy Blanchard and husband Buddy of Saluda; a son, Mike Lyda of the home; two brothers, Fleet and Frank, both of Mills River; five grandchildren, Lori Blanchard and fiancÈ Joe McCraw of Columbus, Julie Blanchard and husband Kyle Ramsey of Saluda, Elliott Lyda of the home, Caitlin Shore and husband Dustin of Gaffney, SC, and Caleb Lyda of the home; one great- granddaughter, Emmaline Shore; and a number of neices and nephews.

A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 19, 2010, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with the Reverend Dr. Mike Smith officiating. No formal visitation is planned, but the family will be at the residence. Memorials may be made to the Fruitland Baptist Church Building Fund, 150 College St, Hendersonville, NC, 28792.
