Barry Brent Mintz, 61, a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, died Monday, March 12, 2012 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. He was a son of the late Roy Alexander Mintz and Gladys Moore Mintz. He was also preceded in death by a brother David Mintz; a sister Annette Mintz Rogers; and a beloved black lab Recon, who died in 2005.
He was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, and also served for several years with the National Guard.
Surviving is his wife of 29 years, Judy Smith-Mintz; a stepson Thomas Edward Dills and his wife Lisa; three step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter Donna Ann Heaton; four step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren; brothers Jerry Mintz, Sr. and his wife Pat of Mills River, Steve Mintz and his wife Debbie of Hendersonville and Gary Mintz and his wife Dawn of Hendersonville; sister Delores Mintz Otis and husband Terry of Winston-Salem; a special nephew Jerry Mintz, Jr.; an uncle Kermit Mintz; a very special aunt Martha Mintz Neal; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved black lab Beth, who was his constant companion and misses him greatly.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Sunday in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military graveside honors rendered by Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post 77, Hedrick-Rhodes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5206, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 14.

so sorry for your loss,judy whem i was in hospital last your care of me was exclent, iam sure he felt your love, god bless you.
My thought and prayers go out to Barry’s family. I served with Barry in the National Guard. Two things were a guarentee with Barry: A. you had the best .50 cals in the Battalion and B. he would always put a smile on your face. Barry was a terrific infantryman and person. I am blessed to have been a Soldier alongside him.
