Betty Cox Ownbey, 88, of Hendersonville passed away at home on November 21, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Joshua and Lora Cox.

Betty will always be remembered for her kindheartedness. She loved her family and her church deeply. As a member of Clear Creek Holiness Baptist since birth, she was dedicated to the church members and her local community.

Betty also loved to tend to her garden and in the spring and summer, it would flourish with beautiful plants and flowers of all kinds. For over 30 years, she worked as a bookkeeper with Louis Williams and Sons, a local hardware store.

Betty is survived by her nephews, Mickie Cox and Terry Gilliland (Diane); her niece, Sue Cox; her grandniece, Angie Cox; her grandnephew, Gary Cox; her great-grandnephew, Isiah Young; and many other beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two loving husbands, Charles Levi and Elmer Ownbey, as well as five brothers and two sisters.

A funeral service will be held at her home church, Clear Creek Holiness Baptist, on Saturday, November 27th at 11:00am. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 – 10:45am. A committal will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.

I’ve known (Aunt) Betty from the early 1960. Lost track of them in 1977 shortly after (Uncle) Charlie died. My Mom (Ina) is in a Nursing Home now. She and Aunt Betty were always very close. The next time I visit Mom I’ll gently inform her of Aunt Betty’s passing. RIP Aunt Betty and Uncle Charlie

Betty was one of my Best friends. Went to school together and graduated together. One friend I am going to miss for a mighty long time. She was so loving and kind to everyone. Loved her God and took care of her family.
