Betty Lynn Thompson Nichols, 87, of Hendersonville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 25, 2014, at the Elizabeth House after an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Roy Roudolph and Lilly Fair Leverette Thompson, and was a lifelong resident of Henderson County. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, David and Joseph; two sisters, Jean Patterson and Jane Morgan; one grandson, Jimmy Clinton Nichols, and one great-grandchild.
Betty was married on June 29, 1946 to Clinton H. Nichols. She retired from Ruth Originals, where she had worked as a seamstress for many years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Clinton H. Nichols; daughters, Linda Gilbert and her husband Alton; Diane Gilliland and her husband Bill; a son, Douglas Nichols and his wife Cathy, all of Hendersonville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Cornwell of Hendersonville; brother, Harry Thompson and his wife Ruth, of Calhoun, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be at 2 pm Thursday, March 27, 2014, in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Preachers Doug Nichols and Seth Nichols officiating. Burial will follow the service in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1-2 pm in the chapel. Memorials may be made to Tracy Grove Baptist Church Missions Program, 982 Tracy Grove Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
