Betty Patterson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023, in Hendersonville, North Carolina, at the age of 69. Born on February 28, 1954, in Hendersonville, Betty was known for her unwavering spirit and inspirational presence.

Betty dedicated over 30 years of her life to Van Wingerden Greenhouse Company in Mills River, where she made a lasting impact through her hard work and dedication. Outside of her professional life, Betty found joy in cooking delicious meals for her family and friends. Her kitchen was always filled with laughter and the comforting aroma of her culinary creations. Her love for food was only matched by her passion for music, particularly the soulful and timeless tunes of George Jones and Elvis.

A devout member of Maple Hill Baptist Church in Etowah, North Carolina, Betty found comfort and solace in her faith. She was an active participant in the church community, cherishing the fellowship and shared moments of worship.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Henry A. Raines and Theo Raines, her loving husband, Raymond Patterson, who passed away on April 13, 2013, her grandson, Joseph Conard, five brothers, and one sister. Although she is no longer with us, her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Betty leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her four children, Ralph, Teresa (Robert), Robert (Suzi), and Donna (Richard); her grandchildren, Rio (Josh), Cory, Katie (Caleb), Megan, Bradly, Christopher, Natalie (Cory), Raymond, and Taylor; her great-grandchildren, Brady and Richmond; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services to honor Betty’s life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Hendersonville. Pastor Dennis Lanning will officiate the ceremony. Following the service, interment will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Maple Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 905, Etowah, North Carolina 28729. These contributions will help support the church and honor Betty’s memory.

Betty Patterson’s life was one that brought joy and inspiration to those around her. Her unwavering spirit, love for her family, and dedication to her community will forever be remembered. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished by those she touched along her journey.

I just want everyone to know and understand that Betty and I had a special kind of friendship. She and I have friendship history since 1971 and we may have lost contact for a while but somehow we always reconnect and had dinners and enjoyed a good game of rummycube or monopoly, or decide to cook up something wild and something neither of needed.
God blessed all of us with Betty’s love and presents for many years. I will always love and remember her for everything she has done and the friend she has always remained to be to me and my family. My children , and myself will always hold a special place in our hearts for Betty and I will always miss her but be thankful for her love and caring she showed us. RIP Betty.
