He was preceded in death by a brother, James Livingston Mooney. He was an automotive technician, and had a knack for fixing anything. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, B.J. Parsons; one daughter, Kristen Mooney; one son, Spencer Mooney; one sister, Mary Frances Robertson; one brother, Thomas Mooney; and three nieces.
A funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct 2, 2010, in the chapel of Forest Lawn Mortuary, with the Rev. Sherrill Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. in the chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
I have memories of going over to the Mooney’s house to play with the dogs, horses, puppies, and to raid their always full ‘fridge. Throughout the years I have become very close to Spencer and he is one of the most genuine, caring, and fun-loving person I know. This reflects on the heart of Mr. Burton Mooney. You are in my prayers and thoughts and you are dearly missed.
I will take a ride on the back of Spencer’s bike in your honor.

Burt was so memorable in so many ways! I really enjoyed working with him, but our trip to Darlington one Friday night two years ago to watch a race gave us the chance just to bond, and I will forever hold that particular memory in my heart. Burt made a difference in my life, and not everyone I come in contact with is blessed to have that opportunity.
My condolences to you, BJ, and to your family. Burt was a stand up guy! As his sponsor at the Elks Lodge, he will be particularly remembered by me at the Hour of Eleven. God speed, fellow Elk.
“You have heard the tolling of eleven strokes.
This is to remind us that with Elks
the hour of eleven has a tender significance.
Wherever an Elk may roam,
Whatever his lot in life may be,
when this hour falls upon the dial of night
the great heart of Elkdom swells and throbs.
It is the golden hour of recollection,
the homecoming of those who wander,
the mystic roll call of those who will come no more.
Living or dead, an Elk is never forgotten, never forsaken.
Morning and noon may pass him by,
the light of day sink heedlessly in the West,
but ere the shadows of midnight shall fall,
the chimes of memory will be pealing forth
the friendly message —
“TO OUR ABSENT MEMBER…”
Sincerely,
Keith Douglas Miller
