Carl E. Woodson, 87, of Hendersonville, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, March27, 2013 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC. He was born in Mathews, VA to the late James R. and Lucy M. Woodson.

He was preceded in death by siblings James R. Woodson, Jr. of Mathews, VA, Elizabeth Rowe of Hayes, VA, LeRoy Woodson of Gloucester,VA and Margaret Osbon of Norfolk, VA.

Carl is survived by Joyce, his loving wife of 15 years; daughters Christine (John) Wright of St. George, UT, Susan (Marty) Thomas of Chesapeake, VA, Kimberly Lungren of Riverside, CA and Karen S. Lungren of Hendersonville, NC; son Steven (Karen Kingma) Lungren of Ambler, PA; sisters Dorothy (Raymond) Reams of Norfolk, VA, Fleta (Scotty) Hunley of Mathews, VA; sisters in-law, Janet Spohn of Chester, VA and Judith Fitzpatrick of West Chester, PA; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren and many loving nephews and nieces.

He previously lived in Norfolk, VA, Clearfield, UT and San Diego, CA. Carl retired in 1980 with 38 years of Federal Service. He was a member of Etowah United Methodist Church. He was a member of Cummings Cove Golf Club. Carl was loved by his family and many friends. He will be dearly missed, and they take comfort knowing that he is in Heaven.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 31, at 3:00 PM at Etowah United Methodist Church, Rev. Dr. Rick Auten presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations of your choice may be made in Carlís memory to Fishes and Loaves (Etowah United Methodist Church), P.O. Box 1268, Etowah, NC or to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Rd. Flat Rock, NC 28731.

Carl…you are one of the reasons I enjoy being a nurse. You were very precious to me. Joyce is also. I know you will miss her but I know most of all she will miss you. Rest in peace dear friend..until we meet again! May The Lord show his face to you. Love Nurse Ryan
