Daniel Edward “Dan” Hyder, 79, of East Flat Rock, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday August 12, 2010, while at Elizabeth House.
A native and life-long resident of Henderson County, he was a son of the late Luther Adam and Minty Eve McCraw Hyder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters, a grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
He proudly served his country and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service. He was owner/operator of Dan Hyder Ditching Company and was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Stella M. Hyder; two sons, Daniel David Hyder and Harry Hubert Hyder and his wife, Doreen; two daughters, Frances Hyder Williams and Karen Hyder Stone; three sisters, Ethel Rhodes, Mary Ann Rhodes and Nellie Huggins; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel at Forest Lawn Mortuary. The Rev. D.G. Jackson and the Rev. Doug Carroll will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Military rites will be conducted by Shaw Air Force Base Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Frances, we were so sorry to hear about your father. He visited Doug, Phillip and Fritz in the “tater patch” often last summer. We miss you up on the hill.

Stella, Karen and Family, Dan meant so much to our family over these years. He will be sorely missed. We were blessed to know him and all of you. I know Pat and Gene will think of him and feel an empty spot in their hearts every harvest as he shared so much with them.
