Elena “Helen” Maria Keiber, 86, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the Elizabeth House after a brief illness. She was born in Staten Island, NY, to the late Umberto and Lisberda DeFazio. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Harry Frederick Keiber, Jr., brothers; Harold “Tootsie” (Lundy) DeFazio, Joseph “Red” (Lee) DeFazio and Dionino “Dutch” DeFazio; sisters, Antoinette “Tet” DeFazio and Anastasia “Susan” (Modestino “Mutty”) Liotti; and grand dog, Sunny Keiber.
Helen attended school at P.S. 17 and McKee High School. Before residing in Hendersonville, NC, Helen lived in Staten Island, NY, Middletown, NY, and Shallotte, NC. She worked for the Department of Agriculture in Manhattan for 18 years and Emergency Housing in Middleton for 15 years. While living in the Hendersonville area, she attended St. Barnabas Church in Arden.
Helen was a devout Catholic. She was a caring and loving mother, wife and aunt to many. What brought her most joy in life was her son “Baby Harry”, caring for her loved ones, cooking, reading, puzzles, playing cards and bowling.
Helen is survived by her son, Harry Frederick Keiber III (Lisa) of Hendersonville and her brother, Umberto “Peanuts” (Carmellina) DeFazio of Staten Island, NY.

Harry, so sorry to read of your mom’s passing. So many memories from all our fun PTO activities at St. Joseph’s School. She was a very loving, gracious, caring woman who was always willing to help.
