Elsie E. “Granny” Gilbert, 88, of Flat Rock, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Hendersonville Health and Rehabilitation in Flat Rock.
She was born in Buncombe County and lived most of her life in Henderson County. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Floyd J. Gilbert; her son, Charlie Gilbert and his wife Barbara of Saluda; four grandchildren, Chris Gilbert and Amanda Crisp, Justin and Brandon White; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Caleb Gilbert.
A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2009, in the chapel at Forest Lawn Mortuary. The Revs. Eddie Conard and Justin White will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday in the chapel. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Guests may sign a register book at www.forestlawnhendersonville.com.

Charlie, Barbara & children and Mr. Gilbert…We were saddened to learn of your loss and pray that the Lord will bring you comfort and peace as you face the days ahead. She will be greatly missed. We have very fond memories of sharing a meal and watching the fireworks with all of you.
