Emma Charlotte Woelfel Van Voorhis, 95, of Etowah, died Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at her sonís home in Flat Rock. She was a native of Mishawaka, IN, the daughter of the late Martin Woelfel and Margaret Schoenauer Woelfel of Germany. Before moving to Henderson County in 1990 she was a resident of Stamford, Ct. Prior to retiring, she worked for many years as a top executive assistant and was also copy editor for Progressive Architecture magazine. She played and taught contract bridge and was a Life Master. She was a Christian Scientist. Mrs. Van Voorhis is survived by two sons, Jerry Alan Van Voorhis and his wife, Lockett of Berryville, VA and David Eugene Van Voorhis of Flat Rock; two grandchildren, Bernard Chandler Van Voorhis of The Plains, VA and Lockett Kiely Van Voorhis MacKnight of Trumbull, CT and five great-grandchildren, Claiborne Hanzel Van Voorhis, Haley Roo Van Voorhis, Elle Lockett MacKnight, Katherine Sinclair MacKnight and Lilian Grey MacKnight. A funeral will be held 11:00 am Saturday, August 15, in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
