Francis C. Zuiderhof, 87, formerly of Huntington, NY, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2010, at his residence in Mountain Home after an extended illness.
Born November 17, 1923, in Munster, Indiana, Mr. Zuiderhof was a WWII veteran who served in the U.S. Merchant Marines in both the American and Pacific Theaters, during which time he survived for a week at sea in the Pacific after his ship was sunk by a kamikaze Japanese plane. Frank possessed strong faith, quiet strength, great love for family and friends and was always available to help those in need. He enjoyed woodworking in retirement.
He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Angelina; three sons, Joseph Raiti and his wife Marie, Kenneth Zuiderhof and his wife Eileen, Stephen Raiti and his wife Mary; dear family friend, Jui ìCharlieî Chen; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; cousins; and devoted nieces and nephews.
A funeral commemorating his life will be at 2:00 pm Friday, December 3, 2010 in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Rev. Ken Crabb will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hendersonville. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 pm prior to the service in the chapel. Memorials may be made to the donorís favorite charity.
