Francis Woodrow Capps, 92, of Zirconia, passed away on Thursday, February1, 2024.  He was born in Tuxedo to the Late Reverend Harley C. Capps and Viola Russell Capps.  He was also predeceased by his first wife of 48 years, Vera Capps; sons Bruce W. Capps and W. Garland Capps; brothers Cephas Capps, Edwards Capps, and Franklin Capps; sister Blanche Camp.

Francis spent his whole life living in Henderson County and was the Owner of Capps Brothers Woodyard.  He was a member of Mountain Valley Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Pace Capps; grandchildren, Bruce A. Capps, Donald F. Capps (Rhonda), and Ronald J. Capps (Mitzie); great-grandchildren, Jacob F. Capps and Alyssa M. Capps; sister Armay Ramey; brother Noble Capps (Nancy), and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at three o’clock on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Mountain Valley Baptist Church with the Reverend David Dickerson and Reverend Oliver Skerrett officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and graveside services will follow at Pearson Cemetery.

The interesting history of the Russell family is that my Granny and Francis’ grandma were sisters. His grandpa and my grandpa were brothers. So, we are doubly related. We enjoyed having Francis visit my grandparents’ mountain. We had cookouts and singings on the deck (as is shown in the attached photo). Cousin Francis was a special person who will be missed by a lot of people.
