George Day, 80 of Tryon, NC passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care following a brief illness. A native of Polk County, he was a son of the late L.L. and Josie Day and husband of the late Phyllis Ann Thompson Day who died in 1992. He was also preceded in death by his son George Allen ìButchî Day and Infant son Stephen Day.
A US Army veteran of Korea, he was a talented stone mason, working all around the county. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, who loved fishing and he cherished his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Debbie Cash and husband Larry of Johnson City, Tennessee and Josie Day of the home; special granddaughter Samantha Long and husband Randy of Tryon and grandchildren Jennifer and Cory Day of Charlotte, and Jeremy Thompson of Johnson City, Tennessee; an especially beloved great-granddaughter Dakota Long and great granddaughters Makayla and Alysa Day.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
George was a sweetheart… while I lived in Tryon there wasn’t hardly a holiday that he didn’t invite me to dinner or send me heaping plates of home-cooking.. I find joy in knowing heaven is his home and I will eat with him again…someday… God bless you all
