Gerald ìShortyî Kuykendall, 76, of Hendersonville passed away Saturday, April 17, 2010, at his home.

A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was a son of the late Lattie ìL.E.î and Louise Justice Kuydendall. He was a Navy veteran serving during the Korean War. He retired after twenty years of service with the Henderson County School System. He was a member of Barker Heights Baptist Church, and loved to watch softball games at Jackson Park. He attended all Hendersonville Bearcat home games and when his health was good he went to the away games. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby and Harold Kuykendall; a sister, Shirley Kuykendall; and a nephew, Daryl Kuykendall.

Survivors include a brother, Lawrence Kuykendall and his wife Barbara of Hendersonville; two nieces, Barbara Grindstaff, Michelle Stepp; two nephews, Robert and Mike Kuykendall; and several great nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Forest Lawn Mortuary. Rev. Eric Boone will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service in the chapel. Memorials may be made to Barker Heights Baptist Church, 215 Glover Street, Hendersonville, NC 28792.

Shorty will be missed at Jackson Park. He was a perment fixture there. He always had a smile on his face. God bless You Shorty.

We really enjoyed saying hello and talking with Mr Kuykendall out at Jackson Park.We also remember him from our days in school.He was a really good guy, he will be missed.Sorry for your loss.God Bless!

I am very sorry for your loss. Shorty was always kind to me, even when I was a kid at H’ville middle school. I loved to talk Bearcat sports with him. God Bless.
