Immediately following service at the home of Christy and the children

Gregory Thomas Day, 50, of Hendersonville, passed away Monday, February 21, 2011 while surrounded by his loving family. Since 2009, he fought a courageous battle with cancer. Greg grew up in Hendersonville, one of six children of Robert and Carol Day. He graduated from Hendersonville High School in 1979. He attended North Carolina State University and Blue Ridge Community College, and earned an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Shortly thereafter, he met and married the love of his life, Christy Pace Day. Together they made their home in Hendersonville, adding to their family with daughter Ashley, 16, and son Corey, 11 and their two lovable canines, Cagney and Lacey. Greg was a devoted husband and father, spending his spare time teaching his children the fundamentals of softball and basketball and attending their many practices and games, as recently as last week. He was a volunteer at The Mountain Community School, listening to children read and helping where he was needed, always looking for an opportunity to give back to his community.

An employee with UPS for many years, Greg was the ” highlightî of many of his customers’ days, always bringing a smile and a joke along with the packages he was delivering. “Have a good DAY”, his customers would say. Greg would reply with a big grin, “I already am, I’m having a GREG DAY.” He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Greg loved a good game of golf and played with his many UPS friends on their days off and on the weekends.

A devoted husband and loving father, he is survived by his wife of seventeen years, Christy Day; a daughter, Ashley Day; a son, Corey Day, both of the home; “adopted” daughter, Erica Wullenweber; mother, Carol Day; father, Robert Day Sr. and Wilma Jamerson; sisters, Monica Ledford and her husband James, Kim Corn and her husband, Jackie Sr., Denise Rowe and her husband Michael, Stephanie Blythe; brother, Robert Day Jr. and his partner Kevin Mellow; nieces, Lindsay Corn and Lily Rowe; nephews, Jackie Corn Jr and Will Blythe; and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday at 1st Presbyterian Church of Hendersonville; Associate Pastor Dwayne “Doc” Durham will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Friday at the church, and immediately following Saturday services at the home of Christy and the children.

Greg will be missed greatly by us at Wild Birds Unlimited. He brought sunshine with him every time he delivered merchandise! He always had a smile and happy word of teasing or greeting. Our thoughts and prayers are with Greg’s family. He was a very special young man.

To the Day Family: Heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your husband, father, son, brother, friend, and to those of us from HHS Class of ’79, the loss of our witty classmate. You know he’s entertaining everybody in heaven right about now! God bless. My prayers are with you to find peace and comfort in knowing Greg’s suffering is over and when it is your time, he’ll be there to greet you on the other shore.

Heaven as truly gained one more angel. I haven’t seen Greg since I was a little girl. My father and Greg were very very good friends and I can remember him being around. Your family is my prayers. God Bless.
