Herrold F. Haynes, 90

Herrold F. Haynes went to be with the Lord on January 28, 2009 at the home of his son in Shalimar, FL, where he resided since 2007 after the death of his beloved wife Dorothy.

He was born on August 4, 1918 in Buncombe County. He served in World War II from 1941 to 1945 with the US Army Air Corps. He married Dorothy M. McDaniel in 1947 and they lived in Henderson County for over 50 years.

He worked for Olin Corporation for over 20 years before retiring in the early 70ís. He was a member of Stoney Mountain Baptist Church where he was actively involved in ministry. He devoted his life to Jesus Christ and was an encouragement to those who were blessed to know him.

Herrold enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours gardening. He planted a variety of vegetables that family and friends greatly enjoyed. He also loved to hunt and fish and was able to venture on many such trips with his brothers and son. As a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather he was known to be a little feisty and he took great pleasure in making his family laugh. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, daughter and other family friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy McDaniel Haynes; parents, Arthur Leroy and Arizona Burleson Haynes; and brothers, Galveston Haynes and Boyd Haynes.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Leon Haynes and wife, Pam, of Shalimar, FL; his daughter June Oliver and husband Garey of Ayden, NC; two granddaughters, Heather Haynes Morgan and husband, Kevin, of Istanbul, Turkey; and Ashley Haynes Harkins and husband, Jim of Shalimar, FL; four great grandchildren, Charis Haynes and Brittany, Bailey and Berkley Harkins; five brothers, Harlen, Boyce, Adger, Robert and Graham Haynes; two sisters, Marion Horton and Wilma Conner; plus a host of beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Stoney Mountain Baptist Church. Military rites will be conducted by Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post #77, Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post #5206, and DAV Chapter 14. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Private interment will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Stoney Mountain Baptist Church, 3301 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville, NC 28791, for overseas mission work of Heather and Kevin Morgan.

Forest Lawn Mortuary is assisting the family with the arrangements. Guests may sign a register book at www.forestlawnhendersonville.com.

Your mom and dad sure left a Godly heritage for your family. We were blessed to have been their Christian friends and family at Stoney Mountain Baptist Church for several years. We have so many good memories of them both. May God bless each of you and comfort you at this time. Love and Prayers, Sam and Linda

Leon, June and Family,

It was a great priviledge to know Herrold(Papaw) Haynes. He was an inspiration to all who knew and loved him. He welcomed me to Stoney Mt. the first time I visited with open arms and the biggest hug. I fell in love with him and Dot that day and remained friends with them throughout the years. I know they are together again rejoicing to see each other and their precious Savior. I look forward one day for that reunion also. God Bless each one of you and all my love. Ann
