Hilliard Drayton Rhodes, 87, of East Flat Rock, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Saluda, NC to the late Reece and Noda Pace Rhodes. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Edmondson Rhodes; brothers, Marshall Rhodes, Lindsey Rhodes (Virginia), and Grayson Rhodes (Essie Lee); sisters, Atlas Collins (Clinton), Ader Babb (Lowell), Alma Ballard (Alvin), and Agnes Rhodes (twin to Alma); brother-in-law Jimmie Murr.
Hilliard was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked over thirty years at Kimberly-Clark. He was also a member at Mud Creek Baptist Church. He loved working at the church and having fellowship with his Sunday school class. One of his favorite hobbies was working in his yard.
He is survived by his son, Jeff Drayton Rhodes, of the home; sister Mary Ann Murr of Mosheim, TN; brother Harrison R. Rhodes (Sandra) of Saluda, NC; many cousins, nephews, nieces, and special friends.
A funeral will be held at eleven o’clock on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Mud Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be held after the funeral at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Four Season Hospice.
I don’t even know what to say. Hilliard Jeff, and I go back to the Grace Baptist Church days. Hilliard was and still is a great person in my book. Jeff, I would have been there for the service. But I’ve been battling COVID the last to weeks.
