Horris DeWitt, 83, of Hendersonville, died Sunday, December 30, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Hattie DeWitt; three sisters; and eight brothers.
He was a native of Ellerbe, NC where he enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Western Carolina University in 1956, where he met his wife, Jonnie Ruth. Together, they owned DeWitt Truck Brokers, Inc., headquartered in Pompano Beach, FL until retiring and moving to Hendersonville in 1994. Horris was a Mason, former Vice President of both the NC Motor Speedway and the Atlanta Motor Speedway, and a member of the Advisory Board for the State Farmers Market in Pompano Beach. He particularly enjoyed NASCAR racing and playing cards.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Jonnie Ruth DeWitt; his son, Michael DeWitt; his daughter, Elizabeth DeWitt; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013, in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home, with Rev. Eric Hardman officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel prior to the service.

I never knew my Great Uncle, but have heard him mentioned many times over the years by my Father Robert Lee DeWitt and Mother Peggy S. DeWitt

Jonnie, Sorry to hear about Horris. I can remember the good times we had in Pompano. . I worked for Cannon Bros. back in the 70’s He’s in a better place now no pain or suffering. Will remember in our prayer’s
