J.B. Horne, 83, of Hendersonville, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at the Elizabeth House.
He was a native of Gaffney, SC, but had lived in Henderson county most of his life. He was a son of the late Wouldga and Ruby Bailey Horne and was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Maxine Moore Horne, who died March 4, 2009. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII and was of the Baptist faith. He was a former member of the VFW Post 5206 and the American Legion.
Survivors include two sons, Alan and wife Marilyn Horne of Fruitland and Marty and wife Sandy Horne of Hendersonville; one sister, Louise Haynes, of Edneyville; five grandchildren, Holly and husband Brent Fortune, Aaron Horne and fiancee Breanna, Gary and wife Amy Horne, Daryl Horne and Tracy Horne; and one great-grandson, Wesley Horne.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2010, in the chapel of Forest Lawn Mortuary with the Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service in the chapel and at other times will be at the home of the son, Marty. Military honors will be provided by the Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post 77, Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post 5206 and DAV chapter 14.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
I did not know personally Mr. J.B. Horne but went to school with his grandson & Mother (Rita) knew one of his son’s when she used to work @ southern states.Our thoughts and prayers are with the family
