In the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 1st, 2022, while surrounded by his loving family, J.C. “Bud” Gilbert, age 81, went to be with his heavenly father at his residence in Zirconia, North Carolina.
A native of Henderson County, North Carolina, born on November 26, 1940, he was the son of the late Carol and Sudie McKinney Gilbert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Donnie Gilbert; and two brothers, James Gilbert, and Floyd Gilbert.
An amazing husband, father and grandfather, Bud enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an avid animal lover, especially his dogs. Bud, for over 60 years, was a skilled electrician; and was a deacon at Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Zirconia.
Having celebrated his 62nd wedding anniversary on December 6th, 2021, Bud is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Betty Gilbert; son, Jonathan Gilbert and his wife, Lisa; daughter, Leona Harwood; daughter, Sarah Levi; son, Buddy Gilbert and his wife, Tessa; son, LeRoy Gilbert and his wife, Sam; and one brother, Donald Gilbert and his wife, Darlene. He was also blessed to have had nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; along with many others that called him “Pawpaw” that were related through love.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 04, 2022, in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Hendersonville.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 05, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Oliver and Rev. Stephen Newman officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Bud was a kind hearted person. I remember him from Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on Ray Hill Road and as a neighbor. My heart goes out to the family. God Bless and take care. Blessed are they that mourn.

I will miss seeing you catching those huge fish with Don. Almost a perfect peace seems to come with fishing.
