Jack Benjamin Summey, 62, of Hendersonville, died peacefully in his home on Monday, August 15, 2011. Jack’s parents, Albert and Reba Summey, who preceded him in death, left behind thirteen children, of whom eleven are still living.
Jack leaves behind his loving wife of twenty four years, Sandy Summey, his six children, and many much-loved grandchildren.
Jack was a man of great love, compassion and dignity. He served his country in the US Army and provided for his family for over thirty years as a self-employed roofer. Because of his dedication to God, family, and work, Jack will be remembered by all who knew him as an honest, hard-working, and loving man. In the last years of his life, Jack got great fulfillment and joy from volunteering countless hours at Camp Tekoa, doing building projects.
A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2011, in the chapel at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Reverend James Johnson will officiate. The family will attend the burial at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Jack wished for donations to be made to the building/maintenance fund at Camp Tekoa; or to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, which aided Jack in his last months and eased his journey home.
We were saddened to hear of Jack’s passing. We remember him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. May you all feel the love and prayers of your friends and neighbors as God holds all of us in the palm of His hands,
To the immediate and extended Summey Family; please accept my deepest condolences for your loss and my heartfelt sympathy to the family of Jack Summey.
Sandy–I had a great fondness for Jack and will miss talking with him and hearing him laugh. He had a big heart. A quote from one of my favorite authors described him well “cheerful in all weathers, never shirked a task, splendid behavior”. God bless you and the girls.
