James Ross ìDinkî Hyder

James Ross ìDinkî Hyder, 89, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 20, 2012 after a brief illness.

He was born June 10, 1923 to the late James Ross Hyder Sr. and Stella Blackwell Hyder Ward. He was preceded in death by his step-father, R.A. Ward; brothers, Rupert Hyder, Charles Ward, and Milner Ward; and his sister, Francis Banks.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Hyder served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 and fought in 5 major battles in the European Theater. He was a recipient of a Purple Heart and Bronze Star with the Oak Leaf Cluster. James retired from Cranston Print Works with 30 years of service.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Donnell Hyder; daughter, Betty Jo Powell and her husband Odell of Rosman; son, Micheal Hyder and his wife Debbie of Hendersonville; a sister, Gladys Moore of Canton; sisters-in-law, Lillian Hyder, Gertha Shipman, and Norma Shipman; 7 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2012 in the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at their residence.
