Janis S. Cooper of Laurel Park died Saturday, March 30, at Pardee Hospital following a brief illness. A resident of Henderson County for the past 20 years, she received her Bachelors degree from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion and her Masters in Education from UCLA.She loved gardening and was an avid animal lover and birdwatcher. She was preceded in death by a son, Jared Cooper.
Janis is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Cooper of Los Angeles, CA and Melora Cooper of Irvine, CA; 2 grandchildren, Charles and Maya Newson; a sister, Naomi Norberg of Sioux Falls, SD and several nieces and nephews.
Per her wishes there will be no services. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203-1606.
I’m so sorry to hear of Jan’s passing. She was a wonderful person and a great friend to me when I lived in Flat Rock. I will treasure the many great memories of her terrific sense of humor and her ever encouraging words. Prayers for her family she loved you so much.
