Jo Anne Hyatt Young passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024 at the age of 85.  She was born March 12, 1938 in Buncombe County to Lilly Williams Merrill.  She was a member of the first graduating class of  A.C. Reynolds High School in Asheville, NC and received her associate degree at Blanton’s Junior College in Asheville, NC.

Jo Anne had a long and successful career as a secretary at Faith Christian Day School and then as a legal assistant at Prince, Youngblood & Massagee, Attorneys at Law.  She finished her career at Coiner & Fox Law Firm as the personal secretary and paralegal for David K. Fox.

Although she took great pride in her career, Jo Anne never prioritized work over her family or church involvement.  Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was an active member of Mud Creek Baptist Church.

Jo Anne loved to bake, loved to laugh, shared her opinion whether you wanted to hear it or not, shared unsolicited her pride in her family with everyone she encountered but most of all she openly shared her love of Jesus and lived out her life verse, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts; And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24 KJV.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Franklin Young; son, Michael Young and his wife Pam; and daughter, Cindy Young.

A graveside service will be held in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 22, 2024.

Cindy, there are no words to express the loss that we feel. Your mom JoAnne was truly a “VERY” special lady. From the day I first met her and your dad 17 years ago, she always did and always will hold a special place in my heart. She will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family during this time.

Dear Cindy, there are no words that can describe how my heart feels in the loss of our sweet Joanne. I remember stopping by to talk with her and chatting and getting her advice on many things. She was like a mother to me, especially after mine was gone. I will always love her and I will always miss her. But I know that we will see her again. Many blessings to you, Cindy and your family and the loss of this precious lady, your sweet mom. Love to all of you and prayers.
