Lena Rosette Cantrell, fondly known as “Dinky”, left this world on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina, at the age of 50. Born on December 30, 1973, in Asheville, North Carolina, Lena was a resident of Penrose, North Carolina.

Throughout her life, Lena worked diligently for General Electric, dedicating 15 years to her profession. But it was her time spent outside of work that truly defined her. Lena had a zest for life and pursued her interests with passion and enthusiasm. Softball, roller skating, and driving cars were among her favorite pastimes, but nothing brought her greater joy than playing with her cherished grandchildren.

Lena’s faith was a member of Barker Heights Baptist Church. She also maintained strong ties with her alma mater, East High School, where she formed lifelong friendships and cherished memories.

Lena was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Cantrell, Sr.

Surviving Lena is her daughter, Arrion Riggins (Eddie Riggins II); and son, Arron Sutton (Catie Sutton). She also leaves behind four adored grandchildren, Dylan, Wyatt, Maura, and AJ. Lena is survived by her sister, Joanna Culver, and brothers, Gary Dunn and Clarence Cantrell, Jr. She will be dearly missed by her many aunts, uncles, nieces, Christina and Jessica; and all those who were fortunate enough to call her a friend.

On Sunday, January 28, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., friends and family will gather at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery for a graveside service to honor and remember Lena. Her presence will forever be missed, but her spirit will live on through the love and memories shared by those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Lena Rosette Cantrell, known as “Dinky” to those closest to her, brought light and joy into the world. Her warm smile, loving nature, and enthusiasm for life will continue to inspire us all. Though our hearts ache with her loss, let us celebrate her remarkable journey and the impact she made during her time with us.

Lena “Dinky” has been one of my best friends for the majority of my life… Always there for anyone who needs a smile and a word of encouragement, a ride when she had a vehicle, a hot meal or anything else she could do to help you in any way. I can’t say how many times she’s been there for me when I needed help and nobody else would help. I will miss her dearly and look forward to seeing her beautiful smile when I join her on the other side. I love and miss you dearly my sister. Watch out for us the best you can and rest high on that mountain!!!

Lena, it was a privilege in this lifetime to know you and call you my friend. You’re a very special person always looked out for me my grandchildren and my great grandchildren. We prayed together you gave me great insights, and you will truly be missed. The energy that you brought each and every time I saw you would give me, the ability to say I can continue each and every day. God knows what is best and you are no longer suffering from the pain that life has brought you. Enjoy eternity with the Lord until we see each other again I will always love you and miss you your friend Maria .
