Luther R. Sayles, 85, of Hendersonville passed away at his home on August 17, 2023. He was born in Asheville on December 29, 1937 to the late Raymond H. and Minnie Jones Sayles.
After graduating high school, Luther served in the US Army, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Professionally, Luther was a motivational speaker who helped encourage employees, staff, volunteers, and others at various organizations. In 1998, he retired from Steel Case. He was also a musician and enjoyed playing the guitar with groups at social functions.
Luther loved spending time with family and friends and was dedicated to serving the Lord. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Luther is survived by his loving wife, Lynda Shuford Sayles of the home; his children Mark Sayles (Nancy) and Kent Sayles (Jasmine); his grandchildren, Ryan Sayles and Talor Sayles (Kathleen); his great-grandchildren, Caidence, Callia, and Channing; his sisters, Geraldine Nichols and Jeanette Riddle (Blaine); his brothers, Ronald Sayles (Jill) and Thomas Sayles; his brother-in-law Philip Shuford (Betty); and friends Phyllis Parker, and Louis and Christine.
In addition to his parents, Luther was predeceased by his good friend and navigator, James Parker; and his beloved Mamma Eckford who helped raise him during his childhood.
Luther will be sadly missed by his family and friends. At his personal request, no services are planned at this time. However, his family covets your thoughts and prayers in their loss.
