02/22/1922 - 09/18/2022

On Sunday evening, September 18, 2022, Mabel Blackwell Hix, better known as Mickey, age 100, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, turned loose of her husband Glenn’s hand, the hand she held for 70 years, and took the hand of her Heavenly Father, the One who held her from the beginning, and will always hold her.

Mickey was born in Decatur, Alabama on February 22, 1922.  After graduating from Riverside High School in Decatur, she attended Moody Bible Institute and later received her undergraduate degree from Alabama College for Women.  While a student at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (Masters in Religious Education, 1952), she met and married Glenn Hix, her partner for life and Christian service.  Together they raised four boys, Daniel, Stephen, Mark, and Phillip.  Together they ministered to local churches in Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, and Guam, and together they served with the International Mission Board in Okinawa and Taiwan, where together they founded Calvary International Baptist Church Taipei, before retiring to Hendersonville.

Mickey is survived by her husband, Glenn, and by three of her children:  Daniel (Pamela), of Maryville, Tennessee, Mark (Mary), of Lewisville, North Carolina, Phillip (Monica), of Greensboro, North Carolina, and her daughter in law, Debra Hix Christensen of Huntersville, North Carolina.  She is preceded in death by her son, Stephen, and grandson, Ryan.  Mickey is also survived by seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and her beloved sisters, Sylvia and Glenn of Decatur, Alabama.

Family and friends will gather in the Village Hall at Carolina Village, Hendersonville, North Carolina at 2 pm on Tuesday, October 4th for a service of remembrance and thanksgiving for Mickey’s faithful and remarkable life.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Employee Appreciation Fund at Carolina Village, 600 Carolina Village Road, Hendersonville, NC  28792.
