Mary Frances Nix Watkins, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Four Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care-Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, North Carolina. She was born on November 06, 1934, in Henderson County, North Carolina, and was the daughter of the late Fonzo Roosevelt Cornwell and Janie Elizabeth Cornwell McGraw.

 

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, George William Watkins, Sr., in 1987. She was also preceded by her brother, Charles Cornwell; and sister, Doris Ledbetter.

 

Mary lived a life filled with love, compassion, and dedication to her family. She was a pillar of strength and an inspiration to all who knew her. Her unwavering love and selflessness touched the lives of many. Her kind heart and gentle spirit will forever be remembered.

 

In addition to raising her five children, Brenda Joy Williams, Vickie W. McCarroll, Sandra R. Watkins, Bill Watkins, Jr., and Beth Case, Mary reveled in the joy of being a grandmother to five grandchildren. Her love extended to seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable happiness into her life; and her sister, Dean Lancaster of Weaverville, North Carolina also survives.

 

A graveside service to honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Mary Frances Nix Watkins will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

She will be missed more than words can say.I thank her for always making me welcome, for always making me laugh with every visit, for genuinely loving with all of her heart.God wanted her home with him and so thankful we are that we will forever have memories what a true blessing that is.❤️
