Melba McDowell, 72 of Hendersonville, died Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Mission Hospital following a lengthy illness.
A native of Liberty, SC, she was the daughter of the late Folger McJunkin. She is also preceded in death by a sister, Linda Justus.
Melba lived most of her life in Henderson County, and retired from DuPont after 22 years of service. She was of the Baptist Faith. Melba enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, and spending time with her great-grandson, Jeffery.
She is survived by her mother, Flora E. McJunkin; a daughter, Tammy Morton; two grandchildren, Brandon Calloway and Erika Morton; a great grandson, Jeffery Calloway; a sister, Judy Townsend; and close family friend James Jones all of Hendersonville.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
So sorry for the loss of your mom and grandmother. I worked with Melba at Dupont. She was a very sweet lady.

I’m sad beyond words about Melba’s death. Thoughts and prayers are with all of the family. but especially Aunt Flora – she is so dear to me. My sympathies are also extended to James – he has been a wonderful friend/caretaker to both Melba and Aunt Flora. Peace be with you.
