Melvin Douglas Lytle, Sr., age 72, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Hospice Solace Center in Asheville, North Carolina. He was born on October 09, 1950, in McDowell County, North Carolina and was the son of Coretha Logan Lytle of Old Fort and the late Melvin Eugene Lytle.

 

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Sharon Denise Lytle.

 

Melvin was a hardworking man who dedicated many years to Old Fort Finishing Plant and Collins & Aikman (C&A). In his free time, he enjoyed working on cars, building model cars, and fishing. Melvin’s love for music led him to sing with Brothers in Christ Gospel Group for 11 years. He was also a member of Mount Allen Masonic Lodge #708 in Black Mountain and Catawba View Missionary Baptist Church in Old Fort.

 

Melvin’s memory will be cherished by, in addition to his mother; two sons, Donald Eugene Lytle and Melvin “Shady” Lytle, Jr.; four grandchildren, Donald Tyler Lytle, Tristin Lytle, Chloe Lytle, and Cayson Lytle; six siblings, Thomas Lytle, Waymon Lytle, Keith Lytle, Janet Lytle Green, Dennis Lytle, and Eddie Lytle. He was also survived by a special friend, Kristie Lytle; and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Catawba View Missionary Baptist Church, 141 Albert Joyner, Sr. Road in Old Fort. Pastor Ronnie Sullivan, Pastor Kathy Logan, and Minister Teresa Kelley will be officiating. Interment will follow at Old Fort City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service, at the church.

 

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. Lytle’s memory are asked to consider, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or by visiting www.stjude.org.

 

Melvin will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kind spirit and unwavering dedication to his family and community will never be forgotten.
