Mercedes DeSoto Barker, age 90, of Hendersonville, NC died peacefully Tuesday morning, November 8, 2022 in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Barker was born Monday, October 3, 1932 in Seattle Washington to the late Comm. Lermond H. and Antoinette B. (Mansoni) Miller.
On November 21, 1959 as the former Mercedes Miller she married her loving husband of 56 years, Mr. Richard L. Barker who died June 6, 2016.
Mrs. Barker was a faithful and devoted member of Pinecrest Presbyterian Church, where she was the church treasurer and a member of the women’s bible study. She was also on the Board of Directors of Vocational Solutions of Hendersonville.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving children, her daughters, Virginia L. Barker of Hendersonville and Diane F. Coffman and her husband, Bob of Marietta, SC; her son, Richard L. Barker, Jr. also of Hendersonville. Other survivors include her devoted grandchildren, Marc Lytle and his wife, Amanda, Jenny Coffman, Erin Coffman, Lee Barker and Nicole Barker. She will be missed by her sister, Ginny Thomas of Portsmouth, VA, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband, Dick and her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Holly M. Barker who died July of 2019 and her twin sister, Toni Drain.
A funeral service to celebrate Mrs. Barker’s life will be eleven o’clock Saturday morning, November 26, 2022 at Pinecrest Presbyterian Church, 1790 Greenville Hwy, Hendersonville, NC with Rev. Rhett Carson officiating. The family will receive guests at the church Saturday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 am.
Memorial contributions may be offered on behalf of Mrs. Barker to, The Hope Center, 552 Ridge Road Hendersonville, NC 28792 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Mercedes will be forever missed by her loving children, grandchildren, family and many dear friends. May God Grant Her Eternal Rest.
