As Mel’s former commanding officer in the Army Reserves, I have a special appreciation for him as a fine man, a good soldier, and a great friend. Mel and I shared many good meals and adventures together in Germany, and remained friends for the 38 years since we served together. Since Mel moved out of South Florida, we enjoyed seeing him at 403rd MID(S) Super Bowl parties. He will be sorely missed.

Mel was a very special friend to all of us who served with him in the U.S. Army Reserves. Although always dedicated to his work, Mel could bring humor to the most difficult of circumstances. He was a talented woodworker and gifted us with a beautiful birdhouse and child’s adirondack chair. His favorite times were those spent on the water catching fish. We loved Mel so much and will miss our times together.
