Nola Osteen Garber

September 17, 1943 - March 29, 2023

09/17/1943 - 03/29/2023

Nola Osteen Garber, 79 of Zirconia, went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2023. Nola was born on September 17, 1943 to parents Arthur Osteen and Isabella Osteen Staton in Hendersonville, North Carolina. After graduating from East Henderson High School in 1960, Nola went to work at Bell South in Asheville where she retired after 36 years. In 1971, Nola and Paul Garber married and spent 52 years together.

Nola was commonly known as “Muh” to those around her. A nickname that has stuck for 30 years. Once retired, Muh went onto work at Tomorrow’s Hope Daycare for 6 years. A woman who loved children and gave back to those who were in need. She was a dedicated church member at Cedar Springs Baptist Church where she played the piano and organ for her entire life. She loved sharing her passion of music with others. Nola was loved and known by many for her contagious laugh, big heart, and beautiful smile.

Nola is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Osteen and Isabelle Osteen Staton, brothers Leland and Mack Osteen, and sister Arnettta Mullinax. She is survived by husband Paul Garber, daughter Stacie Mitchell and husband Eric, grandson Dalton Putnam and fiance Paige, grandaughter Autumn Smith and husband Matt, sister Ann Lindsey and husband Johnny, sister-in-laws Loretta Osteen, Nola Jean Osteen Catlin, Rita Garber Garrison, Nancy Pickelsimer, and Wilma Nicholson, brother-in-laws Garland Mullinax and Edward Garber, and many neices and nephews whom she loved very much.

A visitation will start at 2pm on Sunday, April 2nd followed by a service starting at 3pm at Cedar Springs Baptist Church. A graveside service will take place immediately after at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Attached is a photo of Nola with Daphne Staton (Hedden) when they were 13 years old. The occasion was the Tuxedo Elementary School 8th-grade trip to Raleigh. Several things are memorable about the picture: Daphne and Nola are dressed alike. That is probably because Daphne joined with the Singing Osteen Family at local events during those years. They were best friends, and Daphne regularly visited Nola at the nursing home long after Nola had no memory of who Daphne was. Now that Daphne passed on a few months ahead of Nola, they can visit, play music, and sing together again in Heaven. Also notice that Nola never seemed to age. Her obituary photo looks very much like this picture of her as a young teenager. I loved hearing her sing and always complimented her clear, high voice when she could still attend Lewis’ singings at Maranatha Baptist. She will be missed.
