Otis J. ìJuneî Matthews, 80, of Hendersonville went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was a son of the late Otis and Effie Bishop Matthews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Camp.
He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a proud US Army Veteran and served in the Korean War. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and always tried to make the best out of everything. He was a loving husband, father, and Papaw.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Josephine ìJoî Clayton Matthews; his sons, Ronald, Bobby, and Doug Tate and wife, Brenda; grandchildren, Nicole and Johnny Tate; great-grandchildren, Colton and Robbie Tate; brothers, William ìBillî and Jim Matthews; and a number of nephews.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. The Reverend Jimmy Justice will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Military Rites will be performed by Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post 77, Hedrick-Rhodes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5206, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 14. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
Sorry for your family’s Great Loss Junior was A Good Man and I know he wil be surley Missed by you all . Heavens a Better Place Having Junior there.I’m sure there is a Great Reunion taking Place. I was Glad to say I knew him. . Sorry I couldn’t make the service to Honor Him as I have health problems that wouldn’t let me be there .
