Most recently, God placed him back at Fork Creek Baptist Church where he served as pastor until his death. He served on the Saluda Volunteer Fire and Rescue Board of Directors as vice president for thirteen years. He was a banjo player and singer with the bluegrass gospel group, Green River Boys, for the past nine years.

Survivors include his loving wife of forty-five years, Sharon Hutchinson Gordon; a son, Britt Gordon and his wife Denise of Edneyville; two daughters, Sonya Corn and her husband Victor of Hendersonville, Paula Rush and her husband Nathan of Fletcher; three brothers, Frank Gordon of Hendersonville, Paul Gordon and Eddie Gordon, II, both of Saluda; two sisters, Mildred Ward of Zirconia, Martha Revis of Hendersonville; seven grandchildren, Bradley and Vance Gordon, Aaron, Zachary and Abigail Corn, Kelsay and J. To Sharon and Family…We were saddened to learn of Walter’s passing. Greg of course remembers him from his years at Saluda and I knew him too from the time I spent volunteering and working in the cafeteria. He was always so pleasant, with a laugh, smile or joke to tell. He will be greatly missed and we pray for God’s grace to comfort his family and friends, during the days ahead.

Dear Sharon and family,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during your time of sorrow. Walter was such an inspiration to many, and we will always carry his memory and his teachings with us. We know he is singing with the angels and walking those streets of gold he so often talked about, and we hope that helps to carry you through the sad times you face. We are so sorry we were unable to attend the services due to living so far away now, but we were there in thought and prayer.
