Preston R. Price, 68, of Hendersonville, passed away Friday, October 2, 2009 at Pardee Memorial Hospital. A native of Duplin County, NC, he lived in Henderson County most of his life. He was a son of the late Gurney Franklin and Maggie Arnett Price. He was also preceded in death by, a daughter, Renee Gregory; a brother, Robert Price; two sisters, Rosadean Miller, Brenda Cotton; a father-in-law, Willie B. Marshall; and a mother-in-law, Christine Brown Marshall. He served with the Air Force from 1960 through 1964, the National Guard from 1964 through 1974, and the Navy from 1974 through 1991. He loved God, serving his country, and his family. He was a member of Living Water Baptist Church, and a charter member of the Dana Fire Department. He volunteered at the V. A. Medical Center at Oteen.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty-six years, Sharyn Marshall Price; a son, Joseph P. Price and his wife Carlisa of Dana; a son-in-law, Scott Gregory of Virginia Beach, VA; a brother, Franklin Price of Mt. Olive, NC; two sisters, Marie Wiggins and her husband Wayne of Mt. Olive, NC, Joan Price of Mt. Olive, NC; three grandchildren, Ashley and Andrew Gregory of Virginia Beach, VA, Chelsea Heatherly of Dana; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 3:00 pm Sunday, October 4, 2009, in the chapel of Forest Lawn Mortuary. Revs. Mike Stewart and Phillip Capell will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post # 77, Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post # 5206, and DAV Chapter 14.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Renee Gregory, to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th Street, 8th floor, New York, NY 10022.
