RANDOLPH SCOTT ìRANDYî MATTHEWS, 69, of Hendersonville, went home to be with the Lord very peacefully, on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at the Elizabeth House. He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, and a son of the late William F. and Catherine Williams Matthews. He was also preceded in birth and death by a brother, Wayne Forest Matthews.

He was a 1959 graduate of Flat Rock High School. He served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Charles Adams and served in Cuba during the Bay of Pigs Invasion. He was a self-employed landscaper, but retired from Hubble Industries. He was an avid Scroller, and member of Crab Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Martha Jackson Matthews; a daughter, Katherine M. Cantrell and husband Timothy G. Cantrell of Hendersonville; a son, William Scott Matthews and wife Greta Martin Matthews of Etowah; a granddaughter Kayla Gardella and husband James and their daughter, Hailey; and grandsons, Colton Cantrell, Noah Matthews and Ezekiel Matthews.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept 17, 2010, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with the Revs. Guy Smith and Brad Knox officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Mortuary. Military honors will be provided by the Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post 77, Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post 5206 and the DAV Chapter 14. The family would like to thank his caregivers, Barbara Harrah, Stan Pacana, Mary Wall Tucker, and all the staff at the Elizabeth House. Memorials may be made to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731.
