Raymond A. Winters, 80, of Hendersonville, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2009, at Elizabeth House. A native of St. Louis, MO, he was a son of the late Frank J. and Christine L. Winters. He lived in Bloomington, MN prior to moving to Henderson County six years ago. He earned a BS degree from Missouri University. A navy veteran during WWII, he served with the Sea Bees, receiving the Victory medal. He was also a Korean War veteran. He was a mechanical engineer with Control Data Corporation and Honeywell Corporation. After retirement, he was a school bus driver for twenty-five years in Hendersonville and Bloomington, MN. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW Posts in both NC and MN. He was a bus driver for the Boys and Girls Club in Hendersonville, and was the Post 55 and Alive Coordinator in MN.
Survivors include his wife, Ardis M. Winters; a son, Ned Winters of Minneapolis, MN; two daughters, Nancy Winters of Charlotte, Joan Winters of Minneapolis, MN; four step-children, D. Bruce McElmury and his wife Lori, Elizabeth Johnson and her husband Thomas, David A. Nelson and his wife Joan, Sandra L. Gebhart and her husband Matt; fifteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Mountain View Baptist Church in Hendersonville. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm prior to the service in the church. Granddaughters, Jessica Wolbert and Tiffany Nittler will be honorary pallbearers. Pastor Mike McMillion will officiate.

I had many laughs on the telephone with Ray, and if he were alive I would tell him it was because he has BS degree lol

Ray Winters has left us forever with the precious memories we were blessed to share with him. I am thankful also for the friendship I have shared for so many years with his precious daughter, Nancy. I am happy to have been given the opportunity to know him.

We are sorry to hear about Ray. We have such fond memories of him when we all lived in Portugal years ago. We will miss his happy Christmas cards every year and remember all the good times.
