Richard Eugene Shuford, age 75, of Hendersonville, NC passed away peacefully on February 25, 2023 at Aston Park Health Care Center in Asheville, NC.
He was born on February 11,1948 to the late Fred and Velma Silver Shuford in Mitchell County, NC. Richard was raised in Yancey County in the South Toe area, living there until he left to serve in the Army in 1968. He attended East Yancey High School. He was a dedicated US Army veteran and served in Vietnam. Richard retired at Dupont and was also a retired Truck Driver.
In addition to his parents, Fred and Velma Silver Shuford, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Shuford and his sister, Geraldine Shuford.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Sara “Sue” Shuford; daughters, Ingrid Shuford Kelly, Melissa Ward Coates, and her husband, Mike Coates; son, Timothy “Tim” Ward, and his wife, Karla Ward; sisters, Marilyn Shuford Young, Dena Shuford Hensley and Sharon Shuford; brothers, Tommy Shuford, and Gary Shuford. He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Richard loved spending quality time with his family. He enjoyed watching NASCAR on Sundays along with attending Unity Full Gospel Church in Marion, NC. Richard was a devoted husband, father, and member of the community who made a loving impact on everyone who knew him.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023,11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, 12:00 pm at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy Hardin and Reverend Shannon Hardin officiating. A graveside service will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park following the service with Jeremy Willis, Jack Hensley, Kenny Ray, Tommy Shuford, Randall Shuford, Gary Shuford, and Jeff Shuford serving as Pallbearers.
Richard was the best papaw, grandfather, I ever had and it won’t ever be the same without him. Talking to you, telling jokes and stories and laughing, watching car shows. I’ll miss all of that and I’ll always miss you every day. Love you buddy and enjoy heaven.
