My condolences to Mrs. Holmes, the Holmes family and friends.

For the past 10 years, I played a lot of tennis with RL at the Hendersonville CC. He was the mayor of our Tuesday night men’s group that played each season from mid April through early November. RL was a terrific tennis player, competitor, joke teller and friend to all. Around 2003, RL was on the Mountain Region winning USTA tennis team that competed in Wilson, NC for the doubles combo state title. RL delayed his annual trip back to Pompano a week to join our team and RL added a lot of fun and cameraderie to our team.

Tennis players at HCC will greatly miss our friend, teammate and competitor RL Holmes.

Cheers!

We have been neighbors of the Holmes in Brookland Manor for many years and yet our contacts with R.L. have been too few. I’ll remember his smile and good natured laugh. May his smile shine on us all from Heaven, watching over Betty and his family day and night. God’s blessings on all of you. Beverly and Zeb Palmer

I’m gonna miss hearing you say “Hello Love”… You always had a way of bringing a smile to everyone’s face and I’m gonna miss that contagious laugh and the jokes we shared. We have loved having you in the Lancaster family and enjoying many meals and cookouts with you and “Betty Shorty”. We treasure the memories and are blessed God has let us have you in the family for these 40 years. You will be greatly missed.

All our love,

Stan, Jayne, Ryan, Kyle, Brianna, Nora, Nitak

R.L. was my friend and tennis buddy for almost 30 year. He was “father”, “brother”,

“trusted adviser” and many other roles to me over these years. He and Betty became our “parents” through the years and we shared many good times together in Asheville, Hendersonville, Florida, and on cruises to the Carribean and Alaska. He will be missed and we each feel a tremendous loss with his passing. Rest in peace my friend and keep the courts ready!
