Roscoe Houck, 90, of Hendersonville, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at the Elizabeth House.
He was born in Ashe County to the late William Henry and Martha Lewis Houck. He was also preceded in death by 14 of his brothers and sisters. Roscoe served in the U.S. Army during WWII, where he received 4 bronze service stars for service in the Aleutian Islands, Southern France, Central Europe, Rhineland and Rome. He was also the recipient of a Purple Heart. After being discharged from the Army, he worked as a self-employed landscaper and was a member of the Hendersonville Seventh-day Adventist Church. He loved God, his family and his country. During his free time he enjoyed gardening, canning, photography and visiting his favorite destination ñ Cades Cove, TN.
Roscoe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Olena Houck; his brother, Rev. William Henry Houck of Marion, OH; a son, Kenneth and his wife Deborah Houck of Hendersonville; a daughter, Sherra and her husband Charles McCarson of Hendersonville; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, at the Hendersonville Seventh-day Adventist Church. Chaplain Oral Calloway and William Henry Houck will be officiating.
