Sollie Emily Cox Maybin, of Zirconia, NC, passed peacefully on July 22, 2023. She was born in Marietta, SC, on Aug 21, 1926, to Elon Cox and Sollie Hart Cox. She was the youngest of 13 siblings and the last remaining. She was married for 67 years to Robert F. Maybin.   She was employed for many years at JP Stevens in Tuxedo, where she met her husband and retired from the Eckerd Youth Camp. She was a member of Mountain Valley Baptist Church.

A legendary artist in her kitchen. Her masterpieces included her biscuits, cornbread, pound cakes, buttermilk pies, chicken and dumplings, green beans, and her signature chow chow, among other works of art.

She is preceded in death by her mother, father, siblings, husband, son-in-law Leland Osteen, and great-grandson Conner Maybin.

She is survived by four children; Nola Osteen Catlin (Jeff), Tim Maybin (Wanda), James “Jimmy” Maybin (Gilda) and Larry Maybin (Amy); grandchildren, Emily McCarson, Shannon Phillips, Warren Osteen (Melissa), Jeremi Maybin, April Cantrell (Brian), Amber Aguilar (Richard), Jessica Cox (Jeremy), Justin Maybin (Erin), Joshua Maybin, Nicole Burnett (Jeremy). 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild and countless nieces, nephews, and well-loved friends.

A visitation will be at 12:00 pm and funeral at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Mountain Valley Baptist Church, 65 Mountain Valley Cemetery Rd, Zirconia, NC, proceeded with graveside services at Pearson Cemetery. Memorials can be made to:

Dear family and friends of Aunt Sollie, So sorry for your loss. Aunt Sollie has always been a faithful Christian Daughter, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Grandmother and friend. Earth’s loss is Heaven’s gain. So thankful we will reunite in Heaven. May God supply each and every need. If someone is lost, may they accept Jesus before it is too late.
