It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sue Mathis, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. Sue was born on April 16, 1944, in Buncombe County, North Carolina, and peacefully departed from this world on the morning of Monday, October 30, 2023, at her residence in East Flat Rock, North Carolina. She was 79 years old at the time of her passing.
Sue will be remembered as a woman who embraced life with open arms, cherishing every moment and spreading warmth to those around her. She had a special knack for bringing people together, which made her a cherished neighbor and friend. Socializing with others brought her immense joy, and she always had a smile on her face when in the company of loved ones.
As a devoted mother and grandmother, Sue’s love knew no bounds. Her family meant the world to her, and she poured her heart into nurturing and caring for them. Her unconditional love and support will forever be treasured by her surviving daughter, Pam Padron, and her husband, Manuel. Additionally, Sue leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Annie Carson Jarrett; as well as one daughter, Cindy Spannagel; and two sons, Mark Mathis and Craig Mathis. She also joins several siblings who have gone before her. Although her absence will be deeply felt, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Happy Thanksgiving in Heaven Nanny. I think of you everyday. Rest easy and I think of you in everything that I do.
Not a day goes by that I don’t think about you. I miss you, Nannie. Love, Brandon.
I’m glad I spent time with you and didn’t procrastinate. We went on drives to the parkway, grilled in Pisgah Forest, walked you down to the river when you thought you couldn’t do it, had some awesome conversations, picked on each other, before you got sick, I would bring you your favorite cheat meal, Little Caesar’s. I have so many pictures, videos, and memories that I can watch to remind me of you. I love you and will raise my family with ❤️. Rest In Peace in Heaven. I know that’s where you are 🌺🌻❤️
