Thomas A. Melton, Jr., 88, of Hendersonville passed away while surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the Carolina Village Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Danville, VA, he was the son of the late Rev. Thomas A. Melton, Sr. and Elizabeth Young Melton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Arline Mangum Melton who passed away in 2002.

Mr. Melton received his BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University in 1948 and retired from Westinghouse Corporation. He was a member of Hendersonville First Baptist Church where he was active in the Menís Prayer Breakfast.

He is survived by his son, Thomas A. Melton III and wife, Judy Berrier Melton, of Raleigh; two granddaughters, Susan Melton Price and husband, Doug, of Raleigh, and Allison Melton White and husband, Justin, of Sherwood, AR; two brothers, Nichols Melton of Charlotte and Culbreth Melton of Franklin Springs, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Thursday in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Hendersonville with the Reverend Wally Shamburger officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. .

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hendersonville First Baptist Church (marked for Menís Prayer Breakfast), 312 Fifth Avenue West, Hendersonville, NC 28739.

Tom, you will be missed; those of us who knew and loved you know you are with The Lord today. Men’s prayer breakfast will miss your humor and wit and all your work to make our breakfast the best deal in Henderson county. It has been my pleasure to work with you the last two years! Tom was a dear friend and a dedicated brother in Christ whose special ministry was the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at First Baptist Church. we will miss him!

Tom was a dear friend and co-worker of the First Baptist Church Prayer Breakfast. He will be greatly missed, but he is rejoicing in his presence with the Lord. May God comfort his family in this time of grief.

Tom was truly a friend and brother in Christ. Our lives were enriched by having known and interacted with him. He will be sorely missed but I expect to meet him again in the not too distant future. May the Lord’s blessing and peace be upon family and friends left behind during this time of grief.
