Todd Allan Overgaard, 46, of Hendersonville, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the Elizabeth House, after a three-year battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
A former resident of Hendersonville, he was born to Allan Kent Overgaard and Janet Thelen Overgaard in Carroll, Iowa. He previously lived in Cromwell, Conn.; Greenville, S.C.; and Charlotte. He spent his childhood years in Pleasant Lake, Ind. He graduated from Hendersonville High School in 1982 and attended Catawba Valley Community College where he earned his associate’s degree in applied science with honors. He served in the U.S. Army 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1984 to 1987. He worked with the PGA Tour at Piper Glen TPC, River Highlands TPC and Regent Park golf courses. He attended Mud Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Cindy Fugate Overgaard; his son, Andrew M. Overgaard; sisters, Brenda Overgaard Wheelon and Traci Overgaard-English, of Hendersonville; his nieces and nephews, Ashley Wheelon, Elizabeth Wheelon, Eric English, Laini English, Matt Ammann, Jordan Fletcher and Hudson May; mother-in-law, Judy Fugate of Easley, S.C.; sisters-in-law, Pam May and husband, Kevin May of Easley, S.C. and Kim Fletcher and husband, Scott Fletcher of Murphy; aunt, Audrey Overgaard Finn of Hendersonville; and grandmother-in-law, Gertrude Fugate of Waynesville.
A celebration of his life and dedication to his country with military rites will be 6 p.m. Monday at Mud Creek Baptist Church. Friends may visit the home of Cindy and Andy Overgaard or Al and Jan Overgaard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mud Creek Baptist Church, 403 Rutledge Drive, Hendersonville, NC 28739 or Four Seasons Compassion for Life, the Elizabeth House, 571 S.
