Vincent Jerome Tweed, 77, of Hendersonville, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, May 14, 2010, at V.A. Medical Center in Asheville.
He was a son of the late Luther and Medra Renner Tweed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Tweed, and sisters, Maxine Case, Betty Snyder and Vivian Milton.
He was a graduate of Hendersonville High School and served his country in the US Marine Corp serving in the first Marine Division. He was wounded twice and received two Purple Hearts and Gold Star in Korea. He was owner and operator of Tweeds Furniture. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the VFW, DAV and American Legion, all of Hendersonville.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Virginia G. Auldredge Tweed; one son, Jeffrey D. Tweed and his wife Suzette of Hendersonville; one daughter, Teresa Lynn Tweed Bounds and her husband Joseph of Charlotte; two brothers, J.D. Tweed of Hendersonville and Gary L. Tweed of TN; one sister, Joann Cantrell of Black Mtn; four grandchildren, Crystal Tweed and Matthew Tweed of Hendersonville, Phillip Brugger of TX and Elizabeth Sayles of Asheville; three great-grandchildren, Heather Sayles of Asheville, Alexander and Patrick Brugger of TX; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be at 2:00 pm Monday in the chapel of Forest Lawn Mortuary. Dr. Leland “Buddy” Mullinax will officiating. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military rites. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Veterans Affairs V.A. Medical Center, 1100 Tunnel Rd., Asheville, NC 28805-2807.
