Walter Richard Jacobs, 93, of Houston, TX, formerly of Hendersonville, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at his home. A native of Hampton Bays, NY, he lived in Henderson County twenty-three years. He was the son of the late Walter Bernard and Frederika Lutz Jacobs, and the husband of the late Mary Jean Jacobs who died in 1993. He worked with Brookhaven Laboratory as a technical scientist for thirty-five years, retiring in 1986. A Coast Guard veteran of WWII and the Korean War, he was a radioman aboard the USCG Mackinac, WAVP 371. He enjoyed playing poker, golf and was an avid HAM radio operator.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Dean and her husband Bill of Hendersonville, Sandra Jacobs and her husband Ted Schoenherr of Riveredge, NJ; two sons, Robert Jacobs and his wife Diane of Hampton Bays, NY, Mark Jacobs and his wife Christy Quarles-Jacobs of Clinton, SC; two grandchildren Mark Ryan Jacobs of NC, Ashleigh Owens of Hendersonville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11am to 12 pm Saturday, June 16, 2012 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. A private memorial graveside service will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Just wanted to send my condolences to the family and let them know they are in my thoughts and prayers. Walt was a wonderful man, enjoyed the times with him and Jean with their grandson Ryan…he will be missed…can picture him in heaven on the grand golf course in the sky…. God bless and be with you all…
