William C. ìBillî Stewart, 79, of Hendersonville passed away Friday, July 2, 2010 at Pardee Memorial Hospital. A native of Puyallup, WA, he lived in Henderson County for twenty years. He was the son of the late John and Dorothy Stewart, and was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby Stewart. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, he also was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order. He loved square dancing, holding many offices in the Western Carolina Federation and local clubs.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Flossie Stewart; a son, Jamie Stewart and his wife Debbie of Alabaster, AL; a daughter, Diane Stewart and partner,Kim Joens of Monroe, GA; two grandchildren, Tommy Stewart and his wife Courtney of Overland Park, KS, Erin Stewart of Lawrence, KS; a step-granddaughter, Todi Whyte of Decatur, GA; a step-great granddaughter, Vidalia Whyte of Decatur, GA; sister-in-law, Sister Frances Calhoun of Portand, OR; siter-in-law, Ruth Abner of Portland, OR; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service will be at 11:00 am Monday, in the chapel of Forest Lawn Mortuary. Father Nick Mormando, OFM CAP will officiate. A private entombment will follow the service. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am prior to the service in the chapel. Military honors will be presented by Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post #77,Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post # 5206, and DAV Chapter 14. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 208 7th Ave. West, Hendersonville, NC 28791.
Thinking of all the family, I will always remember what a great gentleman Uncle Bill was. He was my inspiration for becoming an Engineer. I will miss him very much.
