William Hagood Godley, 79, of Hendersonville, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at his home with his family.
Born in Walterboro, SC, he was a son of the late Oscar Benjamin Godley and Frances Lethard Clinton Godley.
A dedicated member of the Church of Christ, he served as an Elder at St Andrews Church of Christ in Columbia, SC and Hendersonville Church of Christ. He was a Board Member of Palmetto Bible Camp, Inc. He and his wife, Jean, were the first caretakers to live on the camp property from 1978-1989. He worked for AT&T, retiring after 30 years, and had served in the National Guard MP Division.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Roberta Godley Foster, Mary Agnes Morrow and Hattie Frances Godley; three brothers, James Lowell Godley, Harold Riddick Godley and Carlisle Benjamin Godley.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Goldman Godley; four sons, William Joseph Godley of Memphis, TN, Robert Clinton Godley of Blythewood, SC, Timothy Eugene Godley of Hendersonville, and Jonathan Andrew Godley of Nashville, TN; a sister, Mabel Genevieve Mitchell of Marshville, NC; nine grandchildren, Cristen Roberts, Emily Via, Anna Godley, Chris and Ben Godley, Grant Godley, Ashley, Marston, and Keaton Godley; two great-grandchildren, Grady Roberts and Mida Godley.
A funeral will be held at 10:00 am Friday at Hendersonville Church of Christ. Steve Teel, Jerry Senn, and Joe Godley will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 pm Thursday in the chapel of Forest Lawn Mortuary.
